Vincent Loy is a photographer who takes photographs of cities and also of firework displays. His photos would fit into the creative use of light category because in his city images, there are the lights from buildings, street lights and sometimes car headlights and then his firework images show light also. After editing some firework photos and also doing a shoot in London with some of the landmarks in my photographs I felt that his work was quite inspiring.
This is one of Vincent Loy's Firework photographs. I like this photo because he has included both the fireworks and also the building to the left. I think this looks very good because the lights on the building are similar colours to that of the fireworks and this make the image all come together very well. He has also taken this photo so that you can see the silhouette of the bridge. I like this because the bridge is so dark that only the black silhouette can be seen and I think this makes it fit better into the creative use of light topic.
This is another of Vincent Loy's photos, hover this image is very different from the image above, this photo only shows the building with lights on at night which makes the image look very professional as the building stands out from the sky in the background. I like the angle at which Loy has taken this photograph because he has stood slightly below the building and looked up at the building and also included some of the sky meaning we can see the moon. I also like how the colours in this image all compliment each other, for example the building is a grey/silver which looks very nice against the black of the sky.
This is another of Vincent Loy's photos of a building, however again, this image is different from my other examples of his work because he has taken this image from directly in front of the building. From looking at this photo I would also assume that he has taken this as a panorama due to the angle of the photo however I think this has worked very well because we can see the angles of the building. I also like how the lights from the building are all different colours, adding some variety to the photo. I also think the colours all work very well together.
This is my final example of Vincent Loy's work. I like this image because he has taken this from quite a distance meaning that we can see the whole shadow of the fireworks in the water. I also like how in this image, the distance means that there is more dark around the light and colour from the fireworks and this makes them stand out more. The fireworks are also all lined up very well in this image and think this makes the photo look very professional.
Influence
One of my shoots of fireworks was influenced by Vincent Loy and I feel that although this was a very effective shoot, I am not very confident photographing in this style and would not feel as if I wanted to take more images in this style.
Summary
Overall, I think Vincent Loy is a very good photographer and his photographs are very good however I would not like to look at his style very much and feel that there are other methods of showing Creative Use of Light within my photography.
