Hid Said Neto

Hid Said Neto is a 26 year old Brazilian photographer who covered his models in neon paint before illuminating them with a single UV light. The flecks of neon paint glow over the faces and the shoulders within the portraits and at times his images even look like embers of a fire or a shower of sparks across the model. Saib first took up photography as a teenager when he started taking photographs of his classmates and he later studied art form at university. In 2010, his series entitled Desigual won the photo essay prize at the Intercom contest in Caxias so Sul in Brazil. His work has also been presented in Buenos Aires in the Sexual and Gender Diversity Festival. I have chosen to look at Neto's work because I find it very interesting and unusual. I think his work is very unique however I would love to attempt to replicate his work as I think this would be a very good idea to use during the final exam. His work also influences me to explore the theme further as this is a very creative use of light as the UV bulb would make the makeup light up in the dark.
This is one of Hid Said Neto's photographs using UV makeup, I like this image because the colours are all very similar, for example the women's makeup and the background are all very similar shades of blue and this works well because we may associate this colour with night. Overall I like this image because the image is not too dark meaning it is still evident to see that this is a women with makeup on her face. The composition of this photo is very effective because the photographer has positioned the photo so that the model is not directly in the middle, I think this works well because it means that there is very little wasted space.

This is another of his images, this image is slightly different because he uses brighter, bolder colours. For example in the image above it was all shades of blues however this image is more purple with bright pink and also some shades of blue. I think this image is composed very well because the photographer has not shown the whole of the models face, this is effective because we are focusing more on her lips which have the brightest colour and also are in focus whereas other areas are not. I also think this image is very effective due to the focus point, the way the photographer has only focused on the face and the body is out of focus is very effective and it adds more variety to the image.

This is another of Hid Said Neto's images, although this is yet another UV paint photo, this photo is slightly different to the others due to the fact that the paint is not applied in a tidy way, it is just smeared across the models face and also with this photo the actor is a young child rather than an older women which appears to be the type of model through the other photographs. Again I like the composition of this photo because they have taken the photo very close to the models face, this means that the models eyes appear very large and this makes her seem as if she is pleading with the viewer.

This is the final of Hid Said Neto's images which I will look at, this image is also slightly different to the other images I have looked at, I think this because the paint that has been used in this image has been applied so that it looks like eyeliner which is a usual thing for a women to wear. The background of this image is also much darker than the other images and in my opinion, this makes the makeup appear much brighter due to the greater contrast.

Influence
I was influenced very much by his work and feel that the majority of my project was influenced by his UV paint shoots. I have taken 5 UV paint shoots including my two exam shoots and feel that this is some of my best work. I also think that this is a very effective way of showing Creative use of Light because without the UV light the paint would not glow.
Summary
Overall, I love Hid Said Neto's work and would love to continue taking photos in his style as I think they are very unusual and unique and I think this is a very strong method for me due to being very creative.
