Work Diary

Monday 9th February
During todays lesson I had planned to use the studio to shoot glow sticks however due to weather being nice, I went out on location to shoot shadows instead, although this does not follow the path I would like to go down for my topic, I felt that it may be a good idea to look at a variety of different ideas, including shadows before setting my mind on light graffiti and flames. For this shoot of shadows I decided to set my camera to shoot in black and white because I felt that this might look very effective to show shadows and after looking at some shadow images and creating a image bank I felt like I preferred shadow images which were shot in black and white.
This is one of my location shadow images, I like this image because I think it looks very effective where I have included both the shadow and also the fence which is creating the shadow, I also like how this image is shot in black and white as I feel that it makes the shadow stand out more and makes it seem darker than when shot in colour. I think the composition of this image is very effective because neither the fence or the shadow are straight in the image which I think looks better than if I had shot either the fence or the shadow straight in the shot with the other not straight.

This is another of my location shadow images, I think this image is very good because it is very different to all of my other images. I like how with this image there is more than one example of a shadow, for example there is the shadow on the window to the left, the shadows on the window ledge and also a small shadow on the window itself. I think in general this is a good image for shadows using the black and white setting as it creates a good range of shades and makes the image seem more professional. I also like the composition of this image because again I have not shot this straight meaning that all of the shadows and lines within the image are all facing different directions and I feel that the angle of this image makes it easier to see all of the different aspects of the picture.

Progression
After shooting shadows, I now know I would like to foes more on light graffiti and different uses of light against the dark rather than shadows as I feel that with lights against dark, you can be very creative, for example in my next shoot, I would like to use the studio meaning that I would have a dark area and use my glow sticks which I had planned on using during this lesson, I think with this I will try to both create shapes with the glow sticks or just makes random designs. I think this will be effective because only being able to see the light gives a little mystery and also by attempting to create certain shapes, I may learn a method and in time be able to create more detailed shapes using the lights.
