I have chosen the topic of Creative Use of Light from the
five exam questions, I have chosen this as I have many ideas of how I can
explore this theme, for example taking photographs of candles, glow-sticks,
light graffiti, torches and exploring these ideas in various ways. I think this
could be a very strong topic for me because I have the ability and equipment to
be able to shoot at home and due to the majority of my ideas needing to be shot
in the dark this makes it very easy for me, I would also like to go into London
and shoot at night and again due to having the equipment of my own, I will be
able to do this.
and photographing areas such as Piccadilly Circus or Big Ben all lit up
at night as I think these will create some very interesting photos. In London I
could also slow the shutter speed down and photograph the busy traffic, which
will make the car lights extend. At home I also want to attempt at hanging glow
sticks in trees and photograph them at dusk, I think this will be very
effective as the glow sticks will start to glow however due to it being dusk it
will be easy to see that they are hanging in a tree. Another idea that I would
like to explore would be using UV paint, I would like to use the UV paint on
someone’s face and make it look like bright makeup and then by shining a UV
light on the makeup, I will be able to take some very complex photographs. This
type of photo would be very effective because the models skin will be dark and
if I am able to pull it off then the only visible thing in the image will be
the UV makeup. This however is all very technical and difficult so I would like
to begin with photographing glow sticks or candles on their own and also
attempt light graffiti towards the beginning but once my skills improve and I
feel more comfortable I will begin to look at the ideas above.
Some artists that have inspired me include Hid Said Neto who
was a very skilled photographer who used UV paint on his models and from
looking through his work, this topic will fit very well into Creative Use of
Light.
